NativeEnergy’s Jeff Bernicke was recently in Mexico City at the Sustainable Food Lab event talking about options to scale carbon sequestration by providing attractive incentives for farmers and ranchers. Our view is that year-to-year carbon offset purchases are not the vehicle that will deliver social and environmental impact, and economic value. Year-to-year offset buys do not provide certainty or assurance for farmers to invest in practices that will sequester carbon or reduce emissions. In our experience, it makes sense to pay farmers upfront for carbon.
