Project Details:

The Envira Amazonia Project is a VCS and CCBS designed REDD+ project in the State of Acre, Brazil which aims to protect up to 200,000 hectares of tropical rainforest. The project is one of only a handful of projects which has been Triple Gold Certified for its Climate, Community, and Biodiversity impact.

A highway built in the 1980s has consistently increased deforestation and development pressure in the area, especially for cattle ranching. The project was formed in response to these pressures. Before the start of the Envira Amazonia project, this property was set to become a cattle ranch.

In addition to providing a wide range of ecosystem services such as preserving wildlife habitat and preventing erosion, there are numerous social projects and activities that the project supports. The project is working to create new income sources and job opportunities for the local community. This involves providing agricultural training programs, granting land ownership to residents, hiring locals to monitor and prevent deforestation, and setting up initiatives to facilitate the harvesting, transportation, and sale of medicinal plants and açaí. Additionally, efforts are being made to boost water quality and enhance farming conditions by preventing soil erosion and retaining topsoil.
